Could someone give me information step by step how to do it please? While you can have multiple source ports, you can only have the one destination port. So if you add a bunch of source ports, you wont be able to capture all packets because the one source port will become saturated.

Brand Representative for NetFort. One thing to watch out for, once you connect you laptop to the mirror port you won't be able to connect to anything on the network. The laptop will just receive packets. When you configure port mirroring on most switches the output port goes into monitoring mode.

Your laptop when connected to this port can receive packets but it cannot connect to other systems on the network. You just need to connect it to a different port once you have captured enough data from the mirror port. If you want a system monitorig of the switch as a device, you dont need mirroring.

Even if you want to know speed levels or which port is up or down. Mirroring is only needed if you want to have look on the payload to see the moving packets! To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.

Dell Support Resources. The ability to mirror a port is a very crucial part of troubleshooting especially when you need to see traffic that is ingressing and egressing from a specific port that a host is connected to.

The best way to see that traffic is to setup a port mirror on that port. A port mirror can be described basically as a window into the traffic on a particular port. A couple of things to keep in mind when you setup a port mirror:.

Most switches have a means to enable port mirroring either in a web interface or commandline and usually both. With the Nseries, the easiest way is to use the web interface to flag on port mirroring. This means that the port mirroring functionality is not turned on. Below we have added a destination port which is the port that the monitoring workstation will be plugged into. This would be the port you would plug into with a workstation or laptop for instance running wireshark.

At this point you should have successfully setup a port mirror from a source port s over to a destination port for a monitoring workstation to be able to see traffic. I'm running the latest firmware 3. The X series switches are focused on being configured from the GUI. Not all commands are available in the CLI.

And which series of product would have a full functional CLI? I do not have any information on the future plans. All I needed to do was issue a no switchport command to get back in, but now I have to go 60 miles to fix it. Just tossing this out for consideration Have you entered the switch interface configuration subsystem first? On my switch different than yoursyou enter the interface name first, then define the VLAN it belongs to.

Unfortunately there is no option to add the switchport commands at the prompt, I can change to the interface but no switchport. All I have at the interface config port is. You know, I was just being curios and I've downloaded the running configuration of the xp, and swithport is there. This switch can run the command switchport, but is disabled for you to run it at will. So there are no hopes at all to be on a road map, because it always have been there.

The sad part is that we just upgraded to a N and we had to give up the rails for rack mounting, so it is annoying to see a "cheap" switch like the X to be equipped with rails but with a limited CLI interface and get a more expensive switch loosing some features that are included in a lower end one.
